Matthew T. Rinaldo  |  Co-Founder

Mr. Rinaldo attended Seton Hall University School of Law and received his LLB/JD in May of 1958. He served a clerkship in the Dept. of Law, Public and Safety under David D. Furman, Attorney General.

 

In 1960, Mr. Rinaldo was admitted to the New Jersey bar and appointed a Deputy Attorney General. During his time in the Attorney General’s Office, he participated in numerous trials and administrative hearings gaining invaluable experience.

After Mr. Rinaldo left the Attorney General’s office to pursue a career in private practice, he was part of the formation of in-house counsel for Nationwide Insurance Company. As in-house counsel, Mr. Rinaldo handled numerous motor vehicle and general liability cases from start to finish. He left in-house counsel at Nationwide to open his own office, but continued to represent employers who were insured by Nationwide in defense of Workers’ compensation claims in New Jersey.  

In 1964, Mr. Rinaldo joined his father, Anthony D. Rinaldo, Sr. Esq. and they formed the firm of Rinaldo and Rinaldo, Esqs. in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Rinaldo and Rinaldo, Esqs. was a general practice that focused on personal injury, workers’ compensation, criminal, real estate, matrimonial and other miscellaneous matters. 

 

In 1970, Rinaldo and Rinaldo was appointed Labor Counsel for New Jersey State Firemens Mutual Benevolent Association and many of the local FMBAs.

 

From 1973-75 Mr. Rinaldo served as a municipal attorney for the Borough of Roselle Park. As a municipal attorney, Mr. Rinaldo handled a variety of matters for the Borough including law suits, administrative hearings, drafting ordinances and serving as the attorney for the Mayor and Council.

In 1977, Mr. Rinaldo formed a non-profit corporation for the Union County Economic Development Corporation, now known as UDEDC, which continued to expand its board and activities throughout the years in terms of providing low interest loans to small businesses.

From 1977-1999, he participated in various roles with UDEDC including general counsel and chairman of the board.  

During the course of his 60 years of practice as a litigator, Mr. Rinaldo appeared in all of the divisions of the Courts of New Jersey with the exception of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He handled of a variety of civil and criminal matters including personal injury, automobile accident, wrongful death and products liability cases, will contests, corporate and commercial litigation, medical and legal malpractice cases, discrimination and wrongful termination cases, and criminal cases, occasionally handling other types of matters on a selective basis.  Mr. Rinaldo has personally tried numerous cases to verdict in the Superior Courts of New Jersey, Law, Chancery, Probate and Family Law Divisions and in the United State District Court of New Jersey, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
